Signal Words are transition words and phrases that good writers use to alert their reader what’s coming next.

Signal Words are associated with the selected Writing Plan. Signal words will appear when a writing plan is selected by either a teacher or a student. As students use Signal Words, they are checked off automatically.

Important Words are interesting, vivid, or content-specific words based on the topic or prompt.

Important Words can be added by the teacher when creating an assignment. Teachers can create the list of words themselves, or use the Assignment Assistant to generate a list based on a topic. As students use Important Words, they are checked off automatically.
